Short-term counselling

The Mental Health Support Team has a wide range of staff who are trained in counselling and have other skills that may help you with your mental health. The service does not offer long-term, ongoing weekly appointments, but we can offer you a really helpful first step towards both understanding your mental health and learning to manage it more effectively.

Our staff are trained in different areas of mental health. Many have a counselling background and some are trained mental health professionals such as mental health nurses. The support we offer is typically short-term and focuses on helping you work on specific issues over a limited number of sessions. The starting point is always you. The aim is for you to work together with your practitioner to understand the drivers behind your difficulties and to start considering meaningful and positive change. We understand that talking about your mental health can feel new or uncomfortable, and we will do our best to help you feel at ease and explain more about the service during your first appointment.
